DANIEL FREDERICK MERRITHEW
MERRITHEW, DANIEL FREDERICK - The death of Dan Merrithew of Plaster Rock, occurred on May 31, 2003 at the Tobique Valley Hospital at the age of 80. Born in Plaster Rock. He is survived by his wife A. Jean (Campbell) Merrithew; one daughter Gail (Karl) MacRae of Plaster Rock; two sons Roger (Kari) Merrithew and Danny (Kathy) Merrithew both of Fredericton; five grandchildren Paul, Timothy, Anthony, Erin and Emma and three great grandchildren; one sister Helen (Mike) Abbruzze of Rochester, N.Y. Predeceased by his parents Wilbert J. and Murrel (Pennick) Merrithew, daughter Linda, sister Pauline Hall and four brothers Robert, Wilbert, John and Arthur. Dan Merrithew worked in Construction and with heavy equipment all his life. He first partnered with this brother John in a company called Merrithew Brothers Construction Ltd. In the 1960's Dan was president of Merrithew Construction Ltd. He constructed major highways in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. He was a proficient pilot, and flew his plane between his different projects. In the 1970's, Dan was engaged in the logging and lumber business constructing a large saw mill and shingle mill in Plaster Rock. Dan had exceptional mechanical skills, loved to fabricate and repair complicated machinery. In the 1990's, Dan worked closely with his sons Roger and Danny, assisting them in operating a construction company out of Fredericton. For the past 10 years, Dan's passion was to develop a gypsum mine in Plaster Rock, and he incorporated Plaster Rock Gypsum and Manufacturing Ltd. He put tremendous effort in assembling a gypsum crushing plant that manufactured powered gypsum for agriculture. Resting at White's Chapel, Plaster Rock with visiting hours on Monday June 2, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday June 3, 2003 at 2 PM from The United Baptist Church, Plaster Rock with Rev. Lorne Freake officiating. Interment in the Plaster Rock Community Cemetery.
