ASHFORD, GLADYS MAY - The death of Mrs. Gladys May (Sterritt) Ashford of Saint John, NB , loving wife for 56 years of Mr. Stephen Ashford occurred very peacefully and suddenly at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Sunday, June 8, 2003, with her family at her side. Born in Glenwood, NB, Mrs. Ashford was the daughter of the late Donald P. and Gertrude A. (Hamilton) Sterritt. She was employed for 20 years with Ashford Enterprises, a family business known and loved by locals as Steve's Fish and Chips. Steve and Gladys retired in 1990 when they closed the store for good. Besides her husband Steve, Mrs. Ashford will also be dearly missed by her daughter Dawn Marr, Saint John, NB, brother, Freeman (Juanita) Sterritt, Glenwood, NB, sister, Laura McNamara, Jones Creek, Central Greenwich, NB, grand daughter, Angela Marr, Saint John and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. A good Christian woman, Mrs. Ashford was a dedicated member of Main St. Baptist Church and was a Dominion ?Life Member of the W.M.S. She adored and loved her family and it was truly felt ?both ways. Besides her parents, Mrs. Ashford was predeceased by her two sons; Douglas and Gerald (Jerry). Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. ?Her funeral will be held from her church, Main St. Baptist Church on Thursday, June 12, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Fernhill Cemetery for family.
