Alice Vickers Cesario, 96, of Mays Landing died Aug. 8, 2008. Born in Sydney Mines, N.S., she came alone to the United States at the age of 15. Later she started her own coffee shop in New York. By the time she retired to raise her family, she owned three restaurants. She married Eugene Cesario and raised her children in Queens, N.Y. Alice had three children, three foster children, and eight grandchildren. She had six brothers all deceased and six sisters, two of which are still living. Alice also had nine great-grandchildren and several great great-grandchildren living in Canada. She loved to cook and loved playing the lottery. She enjoyed talking to people and sharing her experiences during the Second World War and the Depression. She still had a very active mind and enjoyed discussing current topics. Visiting hours will be held Aug. 15, at 2 p.m. at Carmela United Methodist Church. Alice will be buried in her hometown of Sydney Mines.
