JAMES HERBERT FLEET
FLEET, JAMES HERBERT - The death of J. Herb Fleet of 7 White House Court, beloved husband of Ruby Jean (Foster) Fleet, occurred on Saturday, June 21 at 3:30 am after a lengthy illness. Born in Montreal on July 14, 1930, a son of the late Herbert Aaron Fleet and Helen Augusta (Wilson) Fleet. He was brought up in Saint John, educated in local schools, and took a business course at Saint John Vocational. He commenced his career in transportation in 1947 with C.P.R. and transferred to Montreal in 1948. He joined McLean Kennedy Ltd. in June of 1952, and rose through the ranks, retiring in 1992 as General Traffic Manager. He was a member of Lakeside Heights Baptist Church, Pointe Claire, Quebec for thirty four years, sang in the choir and was a member and chairperson of the Board of Trustees. On return to Saint John, he transferred his membership to Lancaster Baptist Church. He was also an adherent of St. Mark's United. He was a member of the Traffic Club of Montreal Inc. (50th President in 1976, Club Historian for ten years from 1988 to 1998, and also served on many committees as chairperson) he was also a member of the Royal Order of Wharf Rats, the Probus Club, and the Union Club. He was a former member of the Montreal Board of Trade, the Montreal Amateur Athletic Assoc. and the Tea and Coffee Assoc. - Quebec Zone. He and his wife enjoyed many years of travel in Europe and other areas of the world and were particularly fond of cruising. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Betty (Wesley) Fox and special nephew Reid Andrews and his wife Heather, in addition to many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother Bill. Resting at Castle Funeral Home - Fallsview, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John West (634-1701) with Visitation on Monday 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday June 25th at 1 p.m. from St. Mark's United Church, followed by interment in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
