ALCIDE J. LOSIER
LOSIER, ALCIDE J. - The passing of Mr. Alcide J. Losier occurred at the Grand Manan Nursing Home after a lengthy illness on Friday evening, June 27th, 2003. Born in Losier Settlement, Tracadie, NB on July 16th, 1928, he was the son of the late Frank and Regina (McGraw) Losier. "Al" worked various jobs when first coming to Grand Manan Island at the age of 16. Working with Glenn McLaughlin at the lobster pounds was the first followed by selling and shipping Christmas trees to Detroit, construction work in Labrador and selling fish door to door on the Island. Al started the first paving business on the Island, called "Alcide Losier Ltd." He took a great interest in his church and was in charge of maintenance for several years. Always well known in the community for his kind heart and generosity he was loved and respected by his friends and family alike. Expressions like, "never seen such a hard worker, works just like a horse, or he'd give you the shirt right off his back", were all self explanatory of this man's character. Al's kind spirit shone through until the very end for even though stricken with the debilitating disease of Alzheimers, aggression was absent from his personality. He is survived by his two daughters, Tanya of Grand Manan and Annette of Cambridge ON, one special son-in-law Brian Nixon, five Grand Children. Also five sisters Catherine, Helen, Jean, Florence, and Gloria and one brother John all of Montreal PQ. He was predeceased by his wife Velma (Ingersoll) in 2000, and also one brother, Wilbert. Visiting hours will take place Monday June 30th, from St. Michael's Catholic Church from 2-4, and 7-9pm, the Funeral service will be held from the North Head Baptist Church Tuesday July 1st, 2003 with Father Swift and Pastor Ian Rough officiating. Internment to follow in the family plot at the North Head Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the St. Michael's Catholic Church Building Fund or the Alzheimers Society would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements in care of ELLS FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Route #776, Grand Manan, N.B. E5G 1G2. (506-662-3116 or www.ells.ca )
