MARGARET ELEANOR NODWELL

NODWELL, MARGARET ELEANOR - of Ellerdale Street, Saint John died peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on July 31, 2003. She was born in Saint John and was the daughter of the late Alexander and Eva Mason and wife of the late William J. Nodwell Jr. Margaret was involved with youth all of her life including the following groups; she was "Brown Owl" with the Salvation Army Brownies for 25 years, in 1955 she started the kindergarten program at the Saint John Boys' and Girls' Club, in 1972 she became the first female Executive Director in Canada for the Boys' and Girls' Club, member of the International Boys' and Girls' Club Professional Association, in 1976 she received the highest award given to a staff member "Silver Keystone Award" for outstanding service of youth, she also received the "Paul Harris Award" given by the Rotary Club. Margaret received the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada for her outstanding services to the community. She was a life member of the Mothers Auxiliary of the Saint John Boys' and Girls' Club, honorary member of the Kinette Club and was the first to receive the "Certificate of Merit" on Canada Day 1989. Margaret was a member of Calvary Temple Church and also of the "Young at Heart" and Women's Ministries Group at Calvary Temple. She was also a member of the Loch Lomond Villa Senior Citizens Club and of the Girl Guides Trefoil Guild. Margaret is survived by her daughter Carol Ann MacDonald (David) of Saint John, her brothers Robert Mason of Saint John and Fred Mason of Toronto, her sister Elizebeth Speight of Saint John and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers; Sam Mason, Edward Mason, David Mason, William Mason and Harry Mason and sisters; Eva Warner, Agnes Chatterton, Eleanor Secord and Dorothy Spragg. Resting at A.W. Cavanagh Funeral Home, 91 Leinster Street 634-1712 with visiting on Friday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am at Calvary Temple Church followed by internment at Fernhill Cemetery. Donations to the Saint John Boys' and Girls' Club Endowment Fund or the Bill and Margaret Nodwell Junior Bursary Fund would be appreciated by the family. www.awcavanagh.com
