74, Sydney It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, wife, grandmother, sister and friend on August 23, 2008 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s. Born in Sydney, October 1, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Jessie (MacSween) Richey. Her love for family and friends was evident in her baking and a good strong cup of tea. You could hear the sound of music in the house all the time. She is survived by her loving husband, Parker; daughter, Vivian; and sons, Edward, Vincent, Donald, James; and 10 grandchildren. She is also survived by sister, Audrey; half-brother, Tommy McCarthy (Victoria) and half-sisters, Helen Powell (Sydney) and Norma “Toots” Frost (Saint John). She was predeceased by brothers, Douglas (Rocky), and Howard (Bolly). Visitation will take place Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Sheldon Chant officiating. Reception to follow in the funeral home reception area. Interment to take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to the Parkinson’s or Children Wish Foundation.
