JOHN ROY LANDRY
LANDRY, JOHN ROY - Surrounded by his beloved wife and daughters, Johnny, age 83, passed away peacefully at his home, on the Belleisle Bay, Saturday morning. A life-long gardener and outdoors man, he had an impressive green thumb. One would always leave Johnny's house with an armful of vegetables or flowers. He made everything he did seem easy. Another of John's hobby's was woodworking, but his real passion was spending time with his family and many friends. Generous and loving, John was highly respected by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. After returning home from serving as a motorcycle dispatcher overseas, with the Canadian Army during World War II, Johnny married Thelma Brown, the love of his life. September 1st would have been their 58th wedding anniversary. They had two daughters - Marlene Crawford of Saint John and Sonya & Al Bastarache of Havelock - and operated the General Store in Springfield until 1954. Moving to Saint John, Johnny worked in automobile sales where he was named Master Salesman, with Chrysler Canada. During the past few years of Johnny's life, he battled lung disease which he faced with the same dignity and courage he faced all challenges. He never complained and instead focussed on his permanent move back to the Belleisle, where he and Thelma have had a cottage since 1963. A fantastic cook, Johnny loved hosting his annual Surf & Turf dinners and Christmas parties. Until his sickness slowed him down, Johnny spent the past 25 years following his grandsons' baseball teams around the Maritime Provinces, cheering all the way. Besides his wife and daughters, Johnny will be dearly missed by his grandsons Scott (Pam Sheppard) and Shawn Crawford (Janis Goldsmith) of Saint John, granddaughter Cindy McEachern (Alec Lumsden) of Petitcodiac, brothers; Harry of Fort Saskatchewan, AB, Earl (Jackie) of Mississauga, ON, and Elmer of Severn Ridge, ON and sister Dora of Mississauga, ON, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Johnny was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Levia (Beck) and his brother Fred, who died while serving overseas in World War II. Visiting will take place at Sherwood's Funeral Home, 18 Scovil Road, Norton, on Monday, August 25th from 3 - 8 p.m. with a memorial service from the funeral home's chapel, Tuesday, August 26th at 1 p.m., followed by interment in Bayview Cemetery, Hatfield Point, NB.
