Feb. 10, 1922-Sept. 5, 2008 Sydney/Bras d’Or Joseph Luke Day, 86, Sydney, passed away suddenly on Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care in Sydney. Born in Bras d’Or, he was the son of the late Vincent and Louisa (Colvey) Day. He is survived by his wife, Ellen (Devoe); daughter, Margaret and son, Michael; three grandchildren; his sisters, Betty Musgrave and Dorothy Serroul; brother, Les Day; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Irene, Margaret, Juanita and Mylinda and his brothers, Hartland, Euguene, Wally, Lawrence, Gordie and Billie. He served as chief of police of Mulgrave, Antigonish, Bridgetown and Annapolis Royal and later retired from the Heavy Water Plant in Point Tupper. At his request, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Bras d’Or, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating.
