New Waterford/Port Hawkesbury Nov. 1949-Sept. 7, 2008 It is said that angels walk among us in our world. Those who were fortunate enough to have had their lives touched by Anne would know that she was one of those special angels. Anne’s heart was pure and overflowing with love, joy, kindness and friendship. Anne’s family wish to announce her passing after a courageous battle of two and a half years with ovarian cancer on Sept. 7, 2008, at home in New Waterford surrounded by her loving family. Anne was born Nov. 7, 1949, in New Waterford. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Jessie (Kavanaugh) MacLean. Anne was educated at Mount Carmel School, New Waterford, Convent of the Sacred Heart, Halifax and Marconi Campus, Sydney. During her early work her love of children was an asset to her job as a nanny in New Waterford and in Boston, Massachusetts. She worked as a nurses aide at Riverside Nursing Home, Boston, Mass. for a year before returning home to New Waterford. For several years Anne worked with Dairy Queen in Sydney. For the past 25 years Anne lived in Port Hawkesbury during which time she was a loyal and dedicated employee at Dairy Queen until her retirement last year due to illness. Anne never lost her childlike innocence and love of life. She shared that love in 2000 by donating a kidney to her brother. She participated in the Canadian Cancer Relay for Life Walk in Port Hawkesbury in 2007 and 2008. Anne was a member of a bowling team in Port Hawkesbury and a member of the Red Hats Society. She loved dancing, collecting movies and records and was an avid fan of Elvis Presley. Anne will be sadly missed by her brother, Francis (Evelyn) MacLean, New Waterford; her sisters, Maryena (Michael) Yurczyszyn, New Waterford, Sr. Christina MacLean, California; special family member, Louise Roach, New Waterford; nephews, Francis (Kim), Darren (Lorna), Lorne (Sherry) MacLean and Michael Francis Yurczyszyn; niece, Cynthia (Gerard) MacNeil; grandnieces and nephews, Samatha, Jessica MacLean, Evan, Adrianna, Troy MacLean, Jenni Lynn, Mitchell, Kelsea MacNeil; aunts, Christina ‘Tena’ MacQuarrie, Sydney, Euphemia ‘Phemie’ MacLean and Dorothy Dumont, Florida; many special cousins and friends, especially Catherine MacLean and very special godchild, Jessie Kavanaugh. Anne will also be missed by her extended family in Port Hawkesbury especially Margaret Samson, her family and her many special friends and co-workers. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Stephen Roderick; her grandparents, Thomas and Christina Kavanaugh and R.H. and Maryena MacLean. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass to celebrate Anne’s life will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11 at the Parish of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Church with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Carmel Center. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, VON, Hospice Palliative Care or a charity of choice.
