LEE WILLIAM SUTHERLAND
SUTHERLAND, LEE WILLIAM - "Those who loved life and lived it fully teach us the most about death - to accept that it comes, to meet it with courage, to believe that such spirit can never be stilled." It is with sadness that we announce the death of Dr. Lee William Sutherland, cherished uncle of Kathryn Turner (Ronald) and Wendy Cornfield (Gary). Lee was born in 1932 in Saint John, New Brunswick, the son of the late William Stanley Sutherland and Ruby Beulah (Goggin) Sutherland. Since 1970 he lived in Billerica, Massachusetts. Beloved husband of Maria (Anastos) Sutherland, devoted father to Dr. William Sutherland (Eileen), Dr. Philip Sutherland (Anne), and Dr. Sandra Sutherland Rahman (Habib) and loving grandfather to seven grandchildren, Lee died at home on September 3, 2003. Lee taught at Suffolk University for 32 years where he served as faculty secretary and faculty advisor to the American Management Association. He was a member and past master of the Thomas Talbot Masonic Lodge in Billerica, a member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite in Boston, and a member of the Princes of Jerusalem and Rose Croix in Lowell. Lee was a member of the First Congregational Church and a Korean War Veteran. A poignant and loving tribute to Lee's life was held on September 8, in the First Congregational Church. Pastor and friend, the Rev. Dennis Bailey, officiated. Interment followed in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica. Pallbearers included Gary Cornfield and great-nephews Steven and Christopher Turner. His only sister, Dorothy G. (Sutherland) Stevens and his brother-in-law Frederick W. Stevens predeceased him.
