ELLEN BESSIE McLEAN

McLEAN, ELLEN BESSIE - 83 of Grand Harbour, Grand Manan, N.B. passed away at the Grand Manan Hospital Thursday evening, November 6th, 2003, after a lengthy illness. Bessie was predeceased by her companion Malcolm A. Wilson on May 24th, 2002. Born in London, England she was the daughter of the late John and Ellen (Morgan) Dowling. Bessie as she was known and loved by many as a devoted mother, grand mother, great grand mother, great great grand mother and a friend to all that knew her and worked with her over the years. Bessie spent several years as a cook on the GM Ferry, worked at Ganongs, St.Stephen, and also boned herring for John Ingersoll Fisheries Ltd., and several other fish stands on the island for several years. Bessie is survived by two daughters Mary Ann O'Brien (Wilfred), of Calais, Maine, Diania Green (Joey) Grand Manan, Three sons William (Billy) Dowling, (Jackie), St.Stephen, Douglas Clinch, (Eileen), Grand Harbour, Charles Dowling, (Irene), St.Stephen, One sister Pauline Rayner, Calais, Maine, 13 grand children, 34 great grand children, and one Great great grand child as well as three nephews and one niece, and one very special grand daughter Pam Clinch. She was predeceased by Malcolm, one brother Stephen, two great grand children, Warren Clinch, and Charles Dowling and two nephews. The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday, November 8th, at Ells Funeral Home Grand Harbour 2-4, 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Sunday afternoon at the Grand Harbour Baptist Church at 2:30 PM with Rev. Troy Dennis officiating. Interment to follow in the family plot Maple Grove Community Cemetery. The family would appreciate donations of your choice to one of the local charities.
