EARLE, DOROTHY EVELYN - At her home in Erb's Cove, NB on Tuesday, November 11, 2003, Dorothy Evelyn (Whitenect) Earle, wife of the late George O. Earle, passed away peacefully at the age of 98 years. Dorothy was born at Midland, NB on March 25, 1905, daughter of the late George and Tillie (Spragg) (Sharpe) Whitenect. She spent her younger years in Midland, where she was a member of the Midland United Baptist Church and attended the Upper Midland School. At the age of 15 she began attending the Sussex High School, graduating in 1923. Dorothy was a member of the 1925 graduating class of the Provincial Normal School in Fredericton. She taught school at Kiersteadville and Long Point prior to her marriage to George Earle on July 6, 1927. Following the next number of years at home raising her family, Dorothy resumed her teaching career in 1955, again at Kiersteadville and Long Point, and then on to Belleisle Elementary, retiring in 1970. At the time of her death, Dorothy was a member of the Erb's Cove United Baptist Church of which she had been organist for the past 77 years. She had served as Church Clerk for 40 years, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, and had remained an active member of the Bible Study Group and the Women's Missionary Society of which she had been Secretary for several years. She was a Life Member of the United Baptist Women's Missionary Union of the Atlantic Provinces. Dorothy was also a member of the Kings County Retired Teachers Association. Besides her husband and parents, Dorothy was predeceased by grandson, Barry E. Fowler, sister Marguerite and husband Roy Hayes, half-brother Ethelbert Sharpe, sons-in-law Charles Forestell and Weldon Erb, and brother-in-law Frank O'Leary. Dorothy is survived by two sons, Donald (Ella), Erb's Cove and Darrel (Doreen), Quispamsis; four daughters, Verna (Ranald) Urquhart, Saint John, Muriel (Hazen) Fowler, Kentville, NS, Phyllis (Terence) Johnston, Kingston, NB, and Norma Erb, Erb's Cove. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren, one sister Mildred O'Leary, Saint John, half-uncle Charles Whitenect, Hatfield Point, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Dorothy will also be missed by a very special church family and many other friends. Resting at Reid's Funeral Home (832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton. The funeral will be held Saturday, 2:00pm, at Erb's Cove United Baptist Church with Pastor Stephen Cripps officiating. Interment in the adjoining cemetery.
