William 'Bill' Holmes

80, Sydney William Archibald Holmes, 80, of Sydney, passed away Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Truro, he was the eldest son of the late William Andrew and Amanda (Williams) Holmes of Pictou County. After attending Mount Allison University, Bill began his life long career with the radio and television industry. His work took him all across Canada and to other places, among them, Bermuda, Southern Rhodesia and Italy for the 1954 Winter Olympics. He is survived by his wife, the former Antoinette ‘Toni’ Odei (born in Watertown, N.Y.); a sister, June Milligan, Tatamagouche; a brother, James, Dartmouth; as well as a nephew, two nieces and many grandnieces and nephews. There will be no visitation for the late Mr. Holmes. Respecting the family wishes, there will be no funeral service at present time. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice. Arrangements are entrusted to T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
