RUSSELL STEEVES JONES
JONES, RUSSELL STEEVES - The death of Russell Steeves Jones of New Maryland, NB, occurred on December 20th, 2003 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, after showing tremendous spirit and strength during his lengthy illness. Born in Marysville, NB, June 25th, 1920, the son of the late Randolph K. and Grace M. (Steeves) Jones of Hainesville, NB. As a young man, he worked in several lumber mills, Automatic Heat Ltd., and NB Power. Russell drove bus for many years with SMT Eastern Ltd., and then retired as an inspector with Fredericton Transit. He was an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #59 in Millville, NB, and a longtime member of the New Maryland United Baptist Church in Nasonworth. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his dedication to family and friends. His many interests included his times at "the camp" at Greenhill Lake, hunting for the big one in the fall, fishing, playing darts and cards with friends, and puttering in his beloved workshop in the garage. Russell is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Idella V. (Hayward) Jones; son, Deverne (Anne) Jones of Nasonworth; daughter, Betty (Winston) Nicholson of New Maryland; five grandchildren, Barbara Doherty (Randy), Leslie Jones (Yvette), Michelle Smith (Trevor), Ginger Nicholson, and Todd Nicholson; seven great grandchildren, Amanda Doherty, Katlyn Doherty, Michael Jones, Victoria Jones, Rodney Duplessis, Carter Duplessis, and Jacob Smith; one great great granddaughter, Madison Crouse; two chosen grandchildren, Andrea Nicholson (Jim) and Bradley Pond (Jennifer) and four chosen great grandchildren, Connor, Nina, Bradley Nicholson and Tyler Fowler; three brothers, Winston Jones (Carol) of Carlingford, NB, Harry Jones (Catherine) of Fredericton, NB, Reg Jones (Cheryl) of Charters Settlement, NB; four sisters, Connie Grant of Saint John, NB, Iva Merritt (Reid) of Fredericton, NB, Viola Jarvis of Chipman, NB, Marrion Haire (Jim) of Fredericton, NB; sisters-in-law, Julia Jones (Stanley) of Upper Hainesville, NB, Avis Jones (Hubert) of Taxis River, NB, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Russell was predeceased by five brothers, Hazen, Carl, Stanley, Hubert, and Phillip; one sister, Margaret Clements (Earl). The family will receive visitors at River Valley Funeral Services, 50 Avonlea Court, Fredericton on Monday, December 22nd, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the New Maryland United Baptist Church, 505 Phillips Road., Nasonworth, NB, off Hwy.101 on Tuesday, December 23rd, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Gerald Matthews officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Barker, Alvin Murray, Frank Hawkins, Keith Kelly, Vaughan Charters, Royden Green, Fred Bull, Bob Davis and Wayne Morgan. Pallbearers will be Larry Clements, Billy Clements, Gary Jones, Neil Merritt, Peter McMurtrie and Michael Hayward. Interment will take place in the adjoining cemetery.
