BRIDGETTE "BETTY" (McNAMARA) HENDERSON
HENDERSON, BRIDGETTE "BETTY" (McNAMARA) - The death of Bridgette "Betty" (McNamara) Henderson, wife of Mark R. Henderson, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on December 21, 2003. She was born in Saint John, and was the daughter of the late Frederick and Alice (O'Leary) McNamara. Betty is survived by her husband, Mark; her daughter, Mary Ellen (Bert Martin); sister Marie McNulty; brothers, John (Jack) McNamara, Bernard (Rose) McNamara, all of Saint John, and brother, Paul (Norma) McNamara of Vancouver, B.C. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, brother, Joseph, and infant son, Bruce. Betty graduated from St. Vincent's High School, and the St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing. She then moved to Montreal where she worked and attended McGill University, specializing in Psychiatry. Upon her return to Saint John, she worked for twenty-five years at Centracare as a Psychiatric Nurse. She completed her Bachelor of Nursing Degree at U.N.B., which allowed her to become an instructor of student nurses. She finished her career at the Community Mental Health Center, retiring in 1991. Betty was always an active member of her community, participating in a variety of volunteer activities. She was a member of the St. Vincent's Alumnae Association, the Irish Canadian Cultural Association, St. Joseph's CWL, Silver Links Seniors Club, the St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary, the Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary, and was in fact, awarded a Lifetime Membership in the N.B. Association of Health Care Auxiliaries, by the Senator Clarence Emerson Foundation. Betty had a zest for life, and took great pleasure in her family and friends. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed travelling, and attending the Knights of Columbus Bingo at St. Joachim's. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, N. B. (646-2424) with visitation on Monday and Tuesday 2:00 to 4:00 PM, and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joachim's Church on Wednesday at 10:00 AM, followed by interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
