Olive Bailey

1921-2008 Olive Bailey (nee MacKinnon), 1921-2008, of Sydney Mines, passed away peacefully with family, Oct. 1, 2008, at the Cove Guest Home in Sydney. Olive was born in Sydney Mines and was the daughter of the late John B. and Jenny (MacKeigan) MacKinnon. She was a parishioner of the Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines, where she was an active participant of the ACW and the Altar Guild for many years. She was a past member of the ladies auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion and of the Sydney Mines Pensioners Club. Olive was a gifted craftsperson and her many projects of knitting, crocheting, weaving, ceramics and tole painting will be an enduring legacy of memories. She was a gentle soul, her tender smile and twinkling eyes a reflection of her pure and kind spirit. A beloved Mom, Nana and Grandnana, she will be dearly missed by all who loved her. Olive was predeceased by her husband, David, sister, Mary MacAulay and brothers, Clarence, Robert and Wilfred. She is survived by children, Marie (Kevin Blinkhorn), Amy (George McCarron), Peggy (James Laidlaw), Judy (Les Gerrow), Linda Bailey-Clarke, Lloyd (Maude) and Bobby (Jean), 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Memorial service will take place at Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines, 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, with the Rev. Peter Rafuse presiding, followed by a reception in the church and interment at the Brookside Cemetery. Family flowers only by request, with memorial donations to Trinity Anglican Church, Cove Guest Home or Canadian Cancer Society.
