The Points, West Bay Ronald Malcolm MacKillop, 57, of The Points, West Bay, passed away Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney, N.S., he was the son of the late Dan G. and Christine (Morrison) MacKillop of Grand River. Ronnie worked as a mine surveyor with the Cape Breton Development Corp., from which he retired in 2001. He is survived by his daughter, Tracey MacKillop (Matt), Halifax; stepdaughter, Shelley Gerow (Travis), North Sydney and grandson, Andy Garnier, North Sydney; sister, Shirley (Buddy) MacKay, Grand River. Also survived by two nieces, a nephew and two grand-nephews; several aunts and many cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, the late Christene Anne (MacKay) MacKillop. Ronnie was an adherent of the Black River United Church. He was a very active member of the South Mountain Arm of Gold Association; the Head of the Lakes Seniors Club and the MacKay Cemetery Association. There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held Monday, Oct. 6, 2008 at 2 p.m. in the Black River United Church, conducted by Wayne Yorke, designated lay minister, accompanied by Rev. Murdock MacRae, followed by committal in the MacKay Cemetery in St. George’s Channel. Fellowship to follow at the St. George’s Channel Hall. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to An Cala Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital; the MacKay Cemetery Association or to a charity of ones choice. Funeral services are under the direction of the Alex A. Morrison Funeral Home, St. Peter’s.
