ELIZABETH "BETTY" GETSON
GETSON, ELIZABETH "BETTY" - Elizabeth "Betty" (nee McGrath) Getson; 84, Halifax, former wife of Audrey McLaughlin of Grand Falls, passed away Monday, January 26, 2004 at the QEII Hospital, Halifax. Born in Chipman, she was the daughter of the late William Aaron and Ellen Martha "Nellie" (nee Collins) McGrath. Betty was a Veteran of WWII, having served in the Canadian Women's Army Corps (CWAC). She had been employed with the Grand Falls "La Cataracte" and had been a correspondent for the Saint John Telegraph Journal. She was a member of the Catholic Women's League and the Royal Canadian Legion, Vimy Branch. She had volunteered with Meals-on-Wheels, St. Vincent's Guest House, and the World Vision Foster Children's Program, through which she had sponsored numerous children. Recently, she had been very involved with the Northwood Multipurpose Center, where she faithfully participated in many clubs and activities. She is survived by her sons, Joe (Betty) McLaughlan of Sackville, and Fred; her grandchildren, Michael (Denise) and Carolyn; and four great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Nicholas, Alexandra, and Aidan. She was predeceased by her parents, and former husbands, Leslie McJannet and Bruce Getson. Resting at Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax, with visitation on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at 12:00 Noon from St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, with Fr. Lorne T. McDonald to celebrate.
