LEO JOSEPH (1918-2004) LEBLANC
LEBLANC, LEO JOSEPH (1918-2004) - The unexpected death of Mr. Leo Joseph LeBlanc of Saint John West, husband of the late Melina M. LeBlanc occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Tuesday, January 27, 2004. He was 85 years of age. Born in Dorchester, Westmorland County, N.B. on November 11, 1918, he was the eldest son of the late Fabien F. and Marie (Bourque) LeBlanc. Leo had lived the greater part of his life in Saint John and was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish. Mr. LeBlanc was a decorated veteran of the Second World War having served in the Royal Canadian Army overseas with the 14th Field Ambulance Unit and Medical Corps from 1941 to 1945. Upon returning to Canada, following the war Leo came to Saint John where he was employed on the Staff of the former Department of Veterans Affairs (Lancaster) Hospital, as a nursing orderly for 36 years before retirement in 1982. Leo was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion No. 2 for fifty years and also a 3rd Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Council 937. In his younger years Leo was actively involved in the Assumption Parish Community, he also enjoyed bowling with friends and loved to play cards. He also liked to play crib and do crossword puzzles. Prior to his illness, Leo loved to spend time outdoors and enjoyed going out for his walks. He also enjoyed time spent with family and friends. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Leo is survived by two sons, David and Patrick and three daughters, Doreen, Angie and Mary, all of Saint John. In addition to his family, he is also survived by three brothers; Camille of Pembroke, Ontario, Alfred (Fred) and his wife Marge of Coral Spring, Florida; Francis and his wife Bernadette of Coventry, Connecticut; two sisters, Florence Belliveau and husband Emile of Amherst, N.S. and Doris Duguay of West Saint John, N.B., as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Leo was also predeceased by his wife Melina, in August 2002, brother in law, Abbey J. Duguay, sister in law Pauline F. Leblanc and niece Irene Melanson. Resting at the Castle "Fallsview" Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John West (506) 634-1702, from where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Church on Saturday, January 31, 2004 at 10 a.m. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery. Visiting at "Fallsview" on Thursday from 7 - 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 -4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Following the interment a reception will take place in the Lancaster Room at "Fallsview". As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donors choice would be appreciated by the family. A tribute to a veterans service will be held at the funeral home by members of the Royal Canadian Legion on Thursday evening at 7 p.m.
