MARION GERTRUDE REARDON (STEPHENSON)

REARDON (STEPHENSON), MARION GERTRUDE - 75, Marion Gertrude Reardon, loving sister, wife, mother and grandmother, died quietly surrounded by family in Yarmouth Regional Hospital on April 2nd, 2004. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick to Frances (Smith) and Ralph Stephenson on February 11, 1929, "Stevie" attended Mount Allison University and graduated from McGill in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education. She taught phys. ed. in Yarmouth and Fredericton between 1950 and 1954. Marion enjoyed her volunteer activities with the Yarmouth Hospital Women's Auxiliary and the Yarmouth YMCA Whitecaps Swim Team and was a long-time member of Yarmouth Historical Society and Th'YARC (Yarmouth Arts Regional Centre). She loved the outdoors and was most fond of the family cottage, canoeing and swimming in Lake Fanning and spent many mornings walking the Perry Road in her housecoat, with a coffee cup and binoculars in search of her favourite friends - the birds. She enjoyed the night sky, reading, gardening and numerous autumn trips along the eastern seaboard to witness the changing colours. Gatherings with her neighbourhood coffee 'girls' and Bridge Club friends were treasured times. Marion is survived by her husband, Judge James, children Jim (Connie and children Kate and Pamela) of Ottawa, Pam of Toronto, Jeff and Bobby Lou, both of Yarmouth, Holly and grandson Jamie of Dartmouth. She will be missed by her Westfield, NB clan - brother Ted (Diane) Stephenson, sister Pat (David) Livingstone, brother-in-law Gordon Empey, close cousins Peggy and Helen Stephenson and their sisters Claire Fidler (London, ON) and Nancy Benn (Fredericton), many nieces, nephews and their children. She will be fondly remembered by sister-in-law Pauline Wellsman of Edmonton. Besides her parents she was predeceased by sisters, Janet Marr and Dorothy Ann Empey, and infant granddaughter Jenna. In accordance with her wishes there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, in Beacon United Church. Interment of her ashes will take place at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Nova Scotia Branch, Yarmouth Regional Hospital Women's Auxiliary, or Adopt-a-Book at the Yarmouth Public Library.
