DORIS M. (MAYHEW) WATKINS

WATKINS, DORIS M. (MAYHEW) - Doris M. (Mayhew) Watkins beloved wife and mother passed away at the QEII Hospital on April 22, 2004 after a long and valiant effort with a lung and breathing problem which never discouraged her ready smile and effort to make you feel good. Doris was born in Smiths Falls, ON on May 4th, 1914 to Harry G. Mayhew, father and Ida (Bedingfield) mother. Doris graduated from Smiths Falls Collegiate and Tabers Business College. For a number of years she was employed as a toll operator with the Bell Telephone Company. As a member of the Presbyterian Church she was active in the church wherever she was living. Doris was especially interested in Choral Society efforts and with her talented voice was always welcome. After moving to Halifax, Doris was active as a volunteer driver for the Canadian Red Cross for a number of years. Golf also became an interest and a chance to enjoy the company of friends. She was a member of Brightwood Golf Club and also Eden Golf Club while living in Bridgetown, NS. Doris is survived by her beloved husband Orman of 64 years marriage and a lifetime friendship having both started to school at the same time in 1920. She was most fortunate to have two children, Kenneth (Belle Clayton) and Linda (Michael MacGillivray) and three grandchildren Sherrie MacGillivray, Kevin Watkins (Jennifer Townsend) and Kristopher Watkins (Laura Reid). She is also survived by a sister Ethel Dorman and many nieces and nephews in Ontario. Doris was predeceased by three brothers, Harold in infancy, Gerald, George and sister Mary Code all of Smiths Falls, ON. Cremation has taken place under the direction of JA Snow Funeral Home 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax. Visitation will take place Saturday April 24th 7-9 pm at the Funeral Home, a memorial service is on Sunday April 25th at 2 pm in Calvin Presbyterian Church, 3311 Ashburn Ave. Halifax. Reception to follow in the Church Hall. Interment will be by the family in St. John Cemetery Columbarium after the service. Donations may be made to the memorial fund at Calvin Presbyterian Church or to a charity of your choice. Family flowers only by request. Email condolences: 1016@alderwoods.com
