MURIEL EDITH JOHNSTON
JOHNSTON, MURIEL EDITH - The death of Mrs. Muriel Edith Johnston, loving wife of the late Chester Johnston of Saint John, occurred peacefully on Wednesday April 28, 2004 at her home. Born 1914, in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Ella (Charlong) Smith. Muriel was a member of Full Gospel Assembly and a member of the WMF for many years. The last ten years of her life she suffered with Alzheimer's. "Little Nan" as family and friends knew her, was very proud when her great granddaughter Angelisa, gave birth to her daughter Clarissa in 1998, completing five generations. The grandchildren loved visiting Nana for her hugs, kisses, smiles, special molasses cookies and home cooking. She loved to play Chinese checkers and Dominoes with her grandchildren, and telling Bible stories. Muriel loved to sew and make clothes for her grandchildren. She worked for a number or years with TS Simms, New System Laundry, and Sales Clerk for Scovil Brothers, and French pastry in Torryburn. She also worked for many years for the family business as a receptionist. Muriel is survived by one daughter, Roberta (Donald) Nice; three step children, Robert "Butch" Johnston, Judy Crowie and Kath McKay. She will be sadly missed by several nieces and nephews, 16 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband Roy David Ferris, of Millcove, one sister Bessie Manuel, one brother Charles Smith, one son Robert Ferris, stepmother Roberta Peterson, stepsisters Nellie Collins and Alemeda Thompson. Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitations on Saturday and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Monday May 3, 2004 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Fernhill Cemetery.
