82, Sydney It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Donovan, which occurred Friday, Oct. 24, 2008 at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex, Glace Bay. George was a guest at Taigh Na Mara, Glace Bay, prior to his passing. Born in Glace Bay he was the son of the late Colin and Bridget (MacHonicie) Donovan. George was a veteran of the Second World War and he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 151, Sydney Forks. He was employed with Devco for many years until his retirement in 1988. George loved music and enjoyed dancing and walking with his wife Marjorie. He was a kind and gentle man and was loved by all who knew him. George is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie (Thompson) Donovan; stepchildren, Susan Johnson, Victoria, B.C., Major Wayne (Bernadine) Johnson, Fredericton, N.B., Derek Johnson, Kentville, N.S. He is also survived by his four precious grandchildren, Katie and Madeline, Coxheath, Brett and Reid, Fredericton, N.B. who were proud to call him Poppie George. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 6-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Monday. Oct. 27, 2008 at Immaculate Heart Church, Mira Road with Fr. Everett MacDow officiating. Interment to take place at a later date.
