1914-2008 Birch Grove We regret to announce the passing of John Edwin MacDonald formerly of Birch Grove on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex. Born in Birch Grove, he was the son of the late Daniel M. and Sarah Ann (Nicholson) MacDonald. John was a resident of Taigh Na Mara Nursing Home, Glace Bay. He was a member of the RCAF in 1941. He spent many years until his retirement, as a coal miner, where he earned his nickname, Beaver. He had compassion for animals, especially his German shepherds, he also enjoyed harness racing. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Neil F. MacDonald. In honouring John’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
