Donald John 'Jackie' MacAulay

1948-2008 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Donald John ‘Jackie’ MacAulay. Born in Inverness, he was a son of the late Donald and Agnes MacAulay. Jackie was a great family man, friend and co-worker and a 30-year employee of Nova Scotia Power Inc. His hobbies included swimming and gardening. Jackie was an avid fan of the game of hockey. In his earlier years, he was a founding member of the Senior League Gillis Cats, following which he devoted 27 years volunteering as a coach to both minor and high school hockey. He was instrumental in bringing Major Midget Triple A Hockey to the Cape Breton West area as a founding member of the Rod’s One Stop Eagles, now known as the Cape Breton West Islanders. He was also a diehard Montreal Canadiens fan. His commitment to the local community through involvement with Helping Hands South of Smokey and Essence of Scotland Highland Dance organizations was surpassed only by his commitment to his family. Left to survive his loss are his wife, Betty; son, Frankie and Val; daughter, Nadia and Matt; daughter, Elizabeth and Waleed; his brother, Bobby; and his companions, Sadie and Cooper. Visitaiton for the late Jackie MacAulay will be in MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck, Thursday, Oct. 30 from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be Friday, Oct. 31 in Knox Presbyterian Church, at 11 a.m., Rev. Lloyd Murdock officiating. Burial in South Haven Cemetery, South Haven. Donations to Hospice Society of Victoria County, Box 279, Baddeck, N.S., B0E 1B0.
