JAMES THOMAS BAKER

BAKER, JAMES THOMAS - The death of James Thomas Baker occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on July 6, 2004 after a brief hospital stay. Born in Saint John on May 29, 1946, he was the son of the late James W. and Gerna L. (Floyd) Baker. Jim was a graduate of the University of New Brunswick and a retiree of the New Brunswick Telephone Company. He was a passionate salmon fisherman and especially loved the Miramichi River. He enjoyed his camp on Robin Hood Lake and his boyhood home in South Bay where he returned to live almost a decade ago, and where, under the tutelage of his gardener friend Murray Linton, he grew vegetables and strawberries. He also enjoyed raking blueberries, he would go anywhere to pick fiddleheads, and he made superb maple syrup. He loved New Brunswick. As a private pilot, Jim owned a succession of small planes, and once belonged to the local chapter of Civil Air Search and Rescue and served on the executive of the national organization. He also served as treasurer of his local PC riding association, was on the board of the Ceder Hill/ Greenwood Cemetery and was a member of the Westfield Golf and Country Club. Jim will be sadly missed by his wife Anne, their three adored children Amy Elizabeth (Derrick Mitchell), Chelsea Anne (Gino Chartre), and James "Jamie" William Baker; his sister Catherine (Bruce Fortin), nephew Paul (Alyson) and niece Sara. He is also survived by his father-in-law Hebert (Rose) Farnell, his dear neighbor and friend Mildred Urquart-Cain, one Aunt, one Uncle and several cousins. Visitation with Jim's family will take place at Castle "Fallsview" Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave., Saint John, NB (634-1701) on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Memorial service will be held Friday July 9, 2004 from St. Mark's United Church, Dexter Drive, at 11 am. Reverend John Fraser will officiate. A reception will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall and interment will take place at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery. Donations in Jim's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Oncology Clinic of the Saint John Regional Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
