NEIL H. SCOTT

SCOTT, NEIL H.- The death of Neil H. Scott, 60, of Hampton, husband of Anne (Huestis) Scott, occurred July 17, 2004, at his residence following a four-month battle with cancer. He was born in Summerside, PEI, son of Ernestine (Marchbank) (Scott) Connell and the late John "Jack" Scott. Neil was a kind and gentle soul who loved learning and teaching others. He was principal of Hampton Elementary School for the first part of his career. After earning his Ph.D at the University of Alberta, in Edmonton, he became an Associate Professor of Education at the University of New Brunswick in Saint John. He was a devoted member of Hampton United Church and was involved in numerous community activities in Hampton. Neil had a great love of the outdoors and respect for nature. He especially enjoyed gardening, canoeing, camping, sailing, and cross-country skiing. Neil is survived by wife, Anne, and mother, Ernestine, as well as daughters, Heather Scott and son-in-law, Geskeem Weabury of Darlings Island, and Janet Scott of Saint John; son, Steven Scott of Victoria, BC; granddaughter, Meelahn Scott-Weabury; mother-in-law, Grace Huestis of Saint John; brother-in-law, David Huestis and his wife, Faye of Saint John and their children, Paul (Diane), Peter and Jennifer; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins in PEI. He was predeceased by his son, Jamie. The family welcomes friends at Reid's Funeral Home (832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, Monday 7-9pm and Tuesday 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A memorial service celebrating Neil's life will be held Wednesday, 11:00am, at Hampton United Church. Neil's lifelong friend, Rev. Don Linkletter of Woodstock, Ontario, will lead the service. Donations may be made to the Dr. Neil H. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund at UNBSJ, which will be awarded to a male student studying Elementary Education. Neil believed positive male role models were important for young children; he wanted to establish this fund because there are too few male elementary school teachers in the school system. To honour Neil's love of nature, wildflower and garden bouquets are most welcome. Online donations and condolences may be made at: www.reidsfh.com
