BUTLER, PHYLLIS ELIZABETH - On July 22, 2004, Phyllis Elizabeth Butler of Cummings Cove, Deer Island, NB passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB. Born at Lambertville, Deer Island on April 29, 1914, she was the widow of Arthur Franklyn Butler and the oldest daughter of Archford and Ermine (Clarke) Greenlaw. At age sixteen, she attended the Provincial Normal School in Fredericton and upon graduation, began her teaching career; first in Greenock, Tower Hill and Breadalbane Schools. As her children became older, she returned to teaching at Deer Island Regional School and Forest Hills Junior High School and Simonds Junior High School in Saint John. She was a skilled teacher of English and to the very end of her life, took a keen interest in the life events of all her former students. She was a long-time member of the Lambert's Cove Baptist Church and, for a few years, a member of the Forest Hills Baptist Church in Saint John. She loved the Lord and had taught Sunday School and had served as Sunday School Superintendent in her earlier years. She had also been a member of the W. M. S. for many years. Phyllis was a loving and devoted mother to Beverly (Edward) Justason of Pennfield, NB; Paul (Brenda) Butler of Pennfield and Keith (Sandra) Calder of Fredericton, NB. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by two brothers, Raymond Greenlaw, Burdett Greenlaw, and two sisters, infant Alberta Greenlaw and Bernice English. Visitation will be held at the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533), 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB on Saturday, July 24 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A brief time of visitation will be held on Sunday, July 25, prior to the 2:00 pm funeral service at Lambert's Cove Baptist Church.
