GEORGE H. - 1915 WASHBURN
WASHBURN, GEORGE H. - 1915- 2004. George H. Washburn, of Government Rd, Riverview, passed away on Monday, August 2, 2004, at the age of 89. Born in Saint John, NB he was the son of the late Arthur and Mary (Hart) Washburn. Retired from the Canadian Meteorological Service after 33 years. He attended St. Paul's United Church and was a graduate of N.B. Normal School, U.N.B. and University of Toronto. He taught school in Saint John for five years, and then joined the Canadian Meteorological Service in 1940. He served in various positions at Gaspe, Liverpool, Halifax, Toronto, Montreal, Goose Bay and Gander. Upon his retirement he was the Regional Superintendant of General Weather Service for the Atlantic Region. He was a member of the Moncton Golf and Country Club, the Professional Institute of Public Service of Canada and a member of the Federal Superannuates Association. He is survived by his daughter; Elizabeth Anne "Beth" Fenwick of Illinois, USA, sons; Robert "Bob" of Ottawa, Leonard (Etta) of London, ON and David of Riverview, sister; Anne Shuve (Ainslie) of Toronto, two brothers; David of Toronto and Dr. Robert (Bertha) of Rothesay. Eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Elsie I. Washburn (Roberts), sisters Ruth Washburn and Marion Jenkins and a brother Walter. There will be no viewing or visitation at the family's request. Funeral service will be held at Riverview Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, August 5, 2004 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Steve Berube officiating. Interment will be in Fairhaven Memorial Gardens.
