HARTSHORN, MARY JEAN - The death of Mary Jean (Smith) Hartshorn of Saint John, NB wife of the late Edward Hartshorn, occurred on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Addie (Tippett) Smith. Jean was involved with the Special Olympics and a Life Member of the Girl Guides of Canada. She was also a former member of the board for the Cherry Brook Zoo. Jean enjoyed boating and camping, where she was a member of the Gloosecap "R.V."ers. She is survived by her daughters; Elizabeth Fraser of Calgary, AB, and Mary Jane (Wesley) Mawhinney of Maces Bay, NB; one brother, Gordon (Betty) Smith of Saint John; five grandchildren; Eric, Kaylyn and Krystal Mawhinney of Maces Bay, Natalie Fraser of Philadelphia, USA and Nikki Fraser of Calgary; also many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Don Smith. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday, August 10 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held from St. John the Baptist (Mission Church) and St. Clements, 815 Millidge Ave, Saint John on Wednesday, August 11 at 2:00 pm. Following the service, interment will take place in Old Cedar Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the Cherry Brook Zoo Foundation, St. John the Baptist (Mission Church) and St. Clements Building Fund or to the charity of the donor's choice. www.brenansfh.com
