Florence Brownell WINDSOR - Florence Josephine Brownell, 98, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, N.S. Born August 5, 1909 in Northport, N.S., she was a daughter of the late Jonathan Dixon and Elva (Allen) Pipes. She was the last remaining member of her immediate family. Florence was a longtime resident of Amherst where she was a member of the United Church and was employed by the School for the Deaf until her retirement. She then devoted her talents to wowing residents of Ridgeview Villa with her beautiful flower gardens and on occasion won awards for her effort. Florence was a loving and thoughtful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, and will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched. Florence is survived by her daughter, Annie McCarthy of Hantsport; son, Arnold (Claudette) of Lower Sackville; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, the love of her life, Wallace; son, Eugene; daughter-in-law, Peggy; son-in-law, Garnet McCarthy; brothers, Arthur (Edith), John (Bernice), Clarence, William (Nita), and Garnet; sisters, Mabel (William) Pauley, Pearl (Archie) MacDonald, Eva (Charley) Feltham, Agnes (Thomas) Robarts and half sister, Grace (James) Elliott. There will be no visitation by request, however, a memorial service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, April 26, 2008, at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906) with Rev. Patti Blundell officiating. Reception to follow. In Lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or charity of choice would be appreciated.
