GORRELL, NANCY GIBBON - A loving mother and a kind person, Nancy Gibbon Gorrell passed away peacefully Monday morning November 8, 2004 in the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax. She had been ill for several months and was living with her daughter Patricia and her family. She was 76 years old. Nancy had a strong character, was a very kind person who has always demonstrated a generous and courageous spirit. She had a great sense of humour, and remarkably, maintained it even to the very end. Many thanks needs to be given to the sensitive and very professional nurses and doctors at the VG Oncology Ward. Nancy was born and raised in Saint John, NB. She was the daughter of Eva Marion Terry and Arnold James Gibbon. She was the grand daughter of Edgar John Terry and James Spence Gibbon, two prominent businessmen in Saint John at that time. She attended Saint John High School graduating in 1946 and was an alumnus member attending several reunions. After growing up in Saint John, she lived at various times in Fredericton, Ottawa and London, Ontario retiring to Halifax in 1986. Her courageous spirit and sense of humor endeared her to many people who remained life long friends. Nancy is survived by one sister Jane Terry Gibbon (Mrs. Gerald Marr) of Kitchener and was predeceased by one brother John Spence Gibbon who was killed in Italy in the 2nd World War and is buried in the Naples Military Cemetery, Italy. Both Nancy's father Arnold (1st WW) and her brother John were courageous and decorated War Veterans. She is also survived by her former husband Frederick Herbert Gorrell, Oxford Junction, two daughters, Patricia (Kenneth S Roberts) and Alberta (Dennis Dube) of Halifax and one son Sergeant John Gorrell (RCR) of Hamilton, Ontario. She was predeceased by her oldest son Walter James Gorrell who unexpectedly and tragically passed away 4 days previously on November 4, 2004 in London, Ontario of heart failure at age 46. She is survived by several grand children, Kenneth Frederick Roberts at Dalhousie Medical School and Emma Nancy Roberts at home Halifax, Sam and Adam Dube at home in Halifax, and Andrew (Gorrell) Mutnjakovic (Walter's son) in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The remains will be cremated. A Memorial Service will take place in December for both Nancy and her son Walter and interment will be together in St. John's Cemetery, Halifax, at that time.
