George V. Wells, husband of the late Mary Leila ‘Molly’ (Copp) Wells, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Dec. 30, 2007, at the Palliative Care Unit, Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Amherst, N.S., March 4, 1920, he was the son of the late Prescott and Annie (Churchill) Wells. He served overseas with the Canadian Scottish during the Second World War and was wounded Dec. 25, 1944. He studied carpentry at Windsor and Sydney, N.S. Trade Schools. He had 25 years service with T. S. Simms Brush Factory as Supervisor of the Woodworking Room and was employed for 15 years at Saint John Ship Building Ltd. He was past president of the RCL Bayview Branch #22, Grand Bay, and served as #1 Zone Commander Royal District. He was past president of Saint John Foremans management Club, past president of the River Valley Senior Citizens Club, a member of the Loyalist Zone Seniors and a former member Willis Lodge # 70, Loyal Orange Association. George too great pride in his work and a dedicated member of the various organizations he was associated with. A dedicated Legionnaire, he was a Life Member of branch # 22 and received the first Meritorious Service Award from his branch, and the Palm Leaf. George took great interest in Parliamentary Procedures and proper conduct of meetings. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, pool and cards. He spent his summers at Irvin’s Point, NB where he enjoyed camping with his family. Married on October 19, 1947 to Mary ‘Molly’ (Copp), residing since that time at Martinon, Saint John West. Surviving are sons Gregory Van (Jan) of Oklahoma City, OK, David George of Saint John, daughter Pamela June Creamer (Jack) of Saint John, six grandchidren Teri Belding, Hazel Quinlan, Gregory Wells, Lee Wells, Shayne Lee, Matthew Creamer, great-grandchildren, sister Audrey Copp of Amherst, NS, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Esma, Olevia and Dorothea and brother Joesph. At his request there will be no visiting. Following cremation at Brenans Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), with a Legion Memorial Service on Friday, January 4, 2008 at 11:00 am from Brenan’s Chapel. Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens.
