AMHERST - Gordon Henry Bell, age 85, of Amherst, passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, N.S. Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late William and Mary (LeBlanc) Bell. Gordie was a member of Holy Family Parish as well as the Knights of Columbus, Amherst. He served in the Canadian Army during the Second World War and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 10, Amherst. Gordie was an enthusiastic dart player and avid bowler and played in the Sunday Night Bowling League. He was also a loyal Junior A Rambler fan. He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Briggs, stepson Kenneth (Nancy) Briggs of Blue Mountain, N.S., and two step-grandsons Kenneth and Daniel and one step-granddaughter Laura all of Blue Mountain, two brothers-in-law Bob (Margaret) Briggs of Dartmouth and Rod (Leta) Briggs of Empress, Alta., and neices and nephews. Gordie was predeceased by a sister Jean Blue and brother Joe. His remains will rest at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst, with visitation on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with the Royal Canadian Legion Tribute service at 7 p.m. and parish prayers at 8 p.m.The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at 2 p.m. from Holy Family Parish, Amherst with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating.Interment will take place in the spring in St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery, Amherst. Family flowers only. Donations in Gordie’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of Cumberland Regional Health Care Center. www.campbells-amherst.ca
