LIKELY, HELEN A.- The death of Helen Ada Likely of Grand Bay-Westfield, wife, of Richard G. Likely, occurred on December 25, 2004,at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on October 21, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Enid (McDirmid) Rising. Helen started her early working career at the Bank of Nova Scotia. She volunteered as a Red Cross driver during the War and was a member of the I.O.D.E., Sir Douglas Hazen Chapter. During her married life she was a life member of the Westfield United Church, the U.C.W. and was a leader with the Westfield Boys Scouts and Cubs. Helen was a life member of the Westfield Golf and Country Club, member of St. Andrews Curling club and volunteered with Meals-on-Wheels. She led a very active life, filled with skiing (70 plus Downhill Ski Club out of New York), curling, canoeing, golfing, playing bridge and walking with family and friends. Besides her husband she is survived by her children, Janet Nichols (Ken) of Woodstock, Michael Likely (Brenda) of Woodstock and Susan West (Dr. Jim) of Saint John, two sisters, Lois Macdonald (Dr. Glen) of Saint John and Elizabeth Howell (Dr. Dennis) of Halifax, NS, six granddaughters, Wendy Nichols of Woodstock, Carrie Richard (Stephen) of Fredericton, Rachel Likely-Hogg (Chris) of Toronto, ON, Sarah West (Bill Ethier) of Victoria, BC, Heather West of Victoria, BC and Kate West of Kimberley, BC, two great grandsons, Jacob and Joshua Hogg, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by grandson, Timothy Likely and brother Edward Rising. By request there will be no visiting at the funeral home. Memorial service will be held at Westfield United Church on Thursday, December 30, 2004 at 11:00 AM. A family graveside service will be held at Fernhill Cemetery at a later date.
