FOLKINS, HILDA M. - Hilda Marion (Dobbin) Folkins, 90, formerly of Sackville, New Brunswick and Quispamsis, died from complications of influenza and pneumonia on January 8, 2005 at the Dr. V.A. Snow Centre, in Hampton. Born in Saint John, N.B. on January 16, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Myrtle May Waddell and Aaron Dobbin. Hilda was a deeply compassionate human being who found colour and imagination in everything she did. She led a full life with varied interests. She taught night classes in Sackville (sewing techniques) for seventeen years and excelled in photography by winning at least eight juried contests; one picture was shown at the Kodak Photo Gallery in Rochester, New York. She always considered her most important job however, to be wife, mother and homemaker. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Lloyd George Folkins in 1994 and her only son, David, who died in infancy (1939-1940). In Sackville, Hilda and Lloyd raised horses and Scottish Border Collies on a small farm, while Lloyd remained active in Provincial politics as the Tantramar MLA and Conservative Party Whip. They moved to Quispamsis to be close to their families. She is survived by three daughters: Heather Lee (wife of Brian Weeks), Calgary, Carol Ann (wife of Bruce Robinson) of Connecticut, and Bonnie Patricia (wife of David Noble Harpp), Montreal, as well as eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Survivors also include her sister-in-law Marjorie (Folkins) Dicks of Hampton and three sisters: Grace Richards (and brother-in-law Stan) of Ontario, Peggy Taylor (and brother-in-law Jim of Fairvale) and Joyce Norman of Fairvale, and sisters-in-law Barbara Dobbin (wife of her brother Bobby) resides in Ontario and Edith Dobbin (wife of her brother Cedric) lives in Saint John. Her family is greatly indebted to the dedicated staff of the Dr. V.A. Snow Nursing Home for their loving and unfailing care. Friends may call at Reid's Funeral Home (832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, on Wednesday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. The funeral will be held Thursday, 11:00am, at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Hampton with Rev. Wally Collett officiating. Interment will be in Hampton Rural Cemetery in the spring.
