MACCAN – The death of Areatha Jean Hoeg, 86, of Maccan, occurred on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre surrounded by her loving family. Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Beatrice (Clark) Elliott. As a young woman, Areatha assisted her father and family in the operation of the Frank Elliott Shows, travelling throughout the Maritimes. During the Second World War, she was a No. 1 welder with Amherst Aircraft. She was an adherent of the Maccan United Baptist Church and a member of the River Hebert Legion Branch 14 and the Amherst Curling Club for many years. Areatha loved the cottage, playing cards and being with family. She faithfully attended the Rambler games and enjoyed playing darts. Areatha will be sadly missed by her husband of 65 years, Aubrey Hoeg; sons Earl, Eric (Debbie), Bob (Heather) and Ron (Betty Anne); daughters Sandra (Roger) Strang, Susan and Cathy (Carson) Collins; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers Wendell (Ruth), Ron (Yvonne) and Clyde (Bonita); sister Doreen Clark; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by grandchildren Stuart Hoeg and Stacey Hoeg; brothers Frank and Glenn. The remains have been cremated under the direction of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst (667-8777). Friends and family are invited to a time of visitation at the funeral home Friday, July 18 from 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the Furlong Jones Funeral Chapel on Saturday, July 19 at 1 p.m., Rev. Clarence Clarke officiating. Burial in the Maccan United Baptish Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Maccan United Baptish Church, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice would be gratefully accepted.
