BRIGGS C.D., J. LEONARD "LEN" - It is with deep regret, we announce the passing of Len Briggs, beloved husband of Louise (Spragg) Briggs and loving father of Heather, Cindy and Stephen on Thursday, February 3, 2005 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Lutes Mountain (Stilesville), NB., February 13, 1922, a son of the late Herbert and Alva (MacFarlane) Briggs. Len worked for the D. V. A. for 41 years as a clerk. He was an overseas veteran of WWII and a life member of R.C.L. Branch #64 having been Service Officer for a number of years and received the Meritorious Service Award. He was an active member of Portland United Church, having served on Session and also belonging to the Men's Club. He was a Past Master of the Orange Lodge, Dominion #141 and the Royal Black Knights of Ireland, as well as, an executive member of the F.S.N.A., and a member of the Millidgeville Seniors Club. Surviving in addition to his wife, Louise are daughters Heather (Rollie) MacPhee, Plaster Rock, NB., Cindy (Spencer) Belyea, son Stephen Briggs, brother Kenneth (Rhoda) Briggs, grandchildren Jason, Andrew, Ian, Margaret, Christopher, Harry, Mary Louise, Kyle, Jaisy, and Summer, as well as, several nieces and nephews. Len was predeceased by brothers Vaughan, Harold, Austin, Claude, Gordon, and sisters Mary and Marjorie. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 7, 2005 at 11:00 am at Portland United Church with a reception immediately following the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for a time of visitation on Sunday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Interment will take place in O.V.M.G. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Portland United Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
