PREBBLE, MARGARET PETERSON - Died early Thursday morning, February 10, 2005 at the Miramichi Senior Citizen's Home, in Miramichi, New Brunswick at the age of 88. She was born, in Fredericton, on January 31, 1917, the only child of the late Cecil Ephraim Nason and the late Mary Caroline Peterson Nason. She attended high school in Fredericton and then went to the University of New Brunswick, graduating with a B.A. in English in 1938. In 1940, she married John Stuart Prebble of Saint John, a recent graduate in forestry from UNB. While he was on active service in the Canadian Army's Forestry Corps she taught at various places in New Brunswick such as Sussex and Blacks Harbour. On John Prebble's return from active service in 1945, he continued his career in forestry. Over the following 20 years, he worked in Edmunston, Newcastle, and in Forestville, Quebec, ultimately becoming Woods Manager of Anglo-Canadian's operations in Forestville. In 1966, he took an early retirement, and started a second career as a fruit farmer in Fenwick, Ontario. He ran a successful fruit farm from 1966 to 1981 when he finally retired. Margaret had her two children, Douglas and Mary, in the late 1940's - Doug being born in Edmunston, and Mary in Newcastle. When the children were young, Margaret was a full-time mother, but after the move to Ontario, she became a full-time farm wife. After John retired, the couple stayed in Fenwick until his death in 1998. Margaret then returned to Miramichi to be closer to her son and to his children. She became actively involved in church and other social activities in Miramichi. Margaret leaves behind her son Douglas (Juanita Gorman), and their three children, Carolyn, Sara and Brian; and her daughter Mary (Paul Harker) of Ottawa. A memorial service will take place at Davidson's Funeral Home, Miramichi at 11 AM on Saturday, February 12th with Rev. Todd McLeod officiating.
