JESSIE (THORBURN) MacFARLANE

MacFARLANE, JESSIE (THORBURN) - Suddenly passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at Saint Peter's Hospital Hamilton, Ont., the wife of the late Ab (Calvin Albert) MacFarlane of Nashwaaksis, N.B. Jessie lived in Burlington for the past 11 years, first at St. Lukes Close, then at Christopher Court Retirement home. She was born in Stanley, N.B. on Nov. 25th 1907, the eldest child of the late Fraser and Maggie (Best) Thorburn. Jessie worked for her father for many years in his restaurant, and was the first telephone operator in McAdam. Jessie was very active in the Anglican Church, was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star, and was an avid curling enthusiast. She is predeceased by beloved brothers Arthur, Douglas, Howard, William (Bill), Stanley and sister Martha Butland. She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Frances and her husband Bill Donald of Hamilton, Ont. and by her two grandchildren Peter and Jessica whom she adored. She is survived by her sister Gertrude of Seattle Washington and her brother Harry (Maxine) of Mission, B.C., sisters-in-law Ethel Thorburn, Eva McBean, Edith Thorburn and many nieces and nephews. Jessie will be remembered for her devotion to family, feisty spirit, strong work ethic, and wonderful sense of humor. Arrangements have been made for cremation by Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East, Hamilton, ON, L8K 1V7. A memorial service will be held at St. George's Anglican Church in McAdam in June. Remembrances can be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
