AMHERST – Cora ‘Betty’ E. (nee Smith) Carter, 71, of MacDonald Road, Amherst, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. Born in South Brook, N.S., she was a daughter of the late William and Annie (Lavers) Smith. Betty was a member of the Golden Years Society and was an avid bowler. She loved clogging, square dancing, knitting & sewing. A favourite pastime was helping her husband, Gerald, to show their Belgian Horses. Betty will be sadly missed by her husband of 49 years, Gerald Carter; three daughters, Laura (Stewart) Dunnington of Dartmouth, Katherine (Richard) Craib of Amherst and Sheri (David) MacMillan of Grande Prairie, Alta.; one son Mike (Linda) of Amherst; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one sister, Vera Higgins of Chaswood, and one brother Mike Smith of Springhill. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Hazen, and one sister, Minnie. The remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong-Jones Funeral Home (70 Church Street, Amherst, 667-8777). At Betty’s request, there will be no public visitation. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held from the Furlong-Jones Chapel on Friday, June 20, at 1 p.m. Rev. Bob Mack officiating. Interment will be held at the Leicester Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Betty’s memory can be made to the Kidney Foundation or the charity of one’s choice. www.furlongjones.ca
