RUFUS E. SR. PEACOCK

PEACOCK, RUFUS E. SR. - At the Saint John Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness, Rufus E. Peacock Sr. passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2005. ("To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord") Born in Burtts Corner, NB., on February 20, 1921, he was the son of the late James and Hilda (White) Peacock and husband of the late Margaret (Keleher) Peacock (1982). Rufus served in the Canadian Army during WWII, belonging to the NB Rangers. Illness kept him from going overseas. He was a lifetime resident of Lorneville and Saint John and a member of Douglas Avenue Christian Church. In his earlier days, he worked for New Way Furniture and then on to the D.V.A. and Ridgewood Veteran's Hospital for more than 20 years. Rufus will be missed by his family and friends, especially his son Rufus Jr. (Marilyn) Dartmouth, NS., daughter Shirley (Paul) Martin Saint John, NB., grandchildren Dan Martin, Lori Martin, Andrew (Maryann) Peacock, Tim (Lisa) Peacock, Rachel Peacock (David Muise), Ruth (James) Slaunwhite, great grandchildren Zachery, Melissa, Tyler, Joshua, Brandon and Madison, sisters Clara (Russell) Gourley, Sarah (Jack) Wilkins and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, Rufus was predeceased by brothers Tolbert Peacock and Bobby Chapman. Resting at Castle "Fallsview" Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave., (634-1701) with visitation Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at the Carleton-Kirk United Church at 2:00 pm. Interment in Ocean View Memorial Garden. Reception immediately following the committal at the Church in Thomson Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to City Centre Ministry P.O.
