BLAIR, FRED - October 1910 - June 2005 Fred Blair, of Fredericton passed away in his 95th year on June 27, 2005 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital after a short illness. He was born at Nashwaaksis, son of the late Howard H. Blair and Lyneah (Staples). Fred was predeceased by a daughter Joanne, twin sons, as well as a brother and sister, nephew Roy Blair and niece Margaret-Ann Watson. Fred was an active volunteer and participated in several groups in the Fredericton community for many years. He was active in the Boy Scout movement for many years, and served as the Fredericton District Commissioner. He shared responsibility for the acquisition of the Yoho property for the Scouts. He served for a time as inspector for the SPCA. He was a life member of Rotary Club of Fredericton and was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship Award. In 1997 Fred was a recipient of the Fredericton Distinguished Citizen Award. He was also an active volunteer and honorary member of the Odd Fellows, served with the Children's Aid society, the Royal Canadian Legion, the YMCA and was a long time member of the Liberal Party. Throughout the years, Fred worked at E.M Young's Hardware, was a partner in Federal Hardware, and was a member of the armed forces from 1942-46. He served on Fredericton City Council in 1947 and was named Deputy Mayor in 1948. He was a member of the Corps of Commissionaires and was self-employed with the management of rental properties. He is survived by his wife Doreen (Horsnell), two children, Stuart (Janet) and Diane (Aurele) Richard, brother Roland Blair, sister Celia Smith, nephew H. Fred (Marilyn) Blair, Barbara (Ralph) McQueen, sisters-in-law Marg Whitcomb, Lillian Kimmo (Bill), Gwen McMullin (Jim Scott), Dorothy Horsnell, brother-in-law John Horsnell (Ann) and several nieces and nephews. Resting at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home on 160 York St., Fredericton with visitation on Tuesday, June 28th from 7 to 9 PM and on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4 will hold a legion tribute at the funeral home Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM. The funeral will be held on Thursday, June 30th at 2:00 PM at Christ Church Parish Church, Charlotte St., Fredericton. Archdeacon John Sharpe will officiate assisted by Rev. Elaine Hamilton.
