Conrad Hoddinott
Peacefully on July 6, 2008, Conrad Hoddinott passed away of Leukemia at Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg, at the age of 63. He is survived by his daughter, Gail Hoddinott; brother Sterling (Louisa) and their two sons, Rod and Stefan. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Lillian and his wife Janice (Day). Conrad was born August 23, 1944 in St. John's, Newfoundland. He began a career as a photographer for Canadian Press when he was just 15 years old. He became a columnist for the Daily News in St. John's and was a news announcer for CBC Radio. He was also a journalist for Broadcast News in Winnipeg and a parliamentary reporter in Ottawa, where he worked closely with Pierre Trudeau as an election campaign reporter. In his career, Conrad interviewed several U.S. presidents, British royalty and international political leaders. He was editor-in-chief at Canadian Press in Toronto. Conrad left journalism to own and operate two Japan Camera stores in Winnipeg. At his request, following cremation a gathering for family and friends was held on Thursday, July 10 at Voyage Funeral Home, Winnipeg.
