McAVITY, ELIZABETH "BETTY" - Elizabeth "Betty" McAvity passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2005 at Meadowview Villa in Petrolia, ON. Beloved wife of the late George McAvity. Survived by children Clifford and wife Jennifer of Bright's Grove, ON., Gaye Johnson of London, ON., Thomas and wife Janet of Gagetown, N.B., Michael and wife Sheila of Komoka, ON. and Lynn and husband Bill Eves of Wyoming, ON. Proud and loving grandmother (Nan) to Chandy and Oran Johnson, Taigue and Tayce, George and Lindsey, Joseph and Lori and Nicholas and Afton Eves. Also, grandmother-in-law to Oran's wife Denyse and great-grandmother to Nash Johnson. Missed being grandmother-in-law to George's fiancé Michelle Gignac, to be married on August 27, 2005. Predeceased by infant son Hugh McAvity, parents Thomas and Claudine Dunn, sister Marjorie Logan and brother Ted Dunn. Betty was born in Winnipeg, Man. in 1921, and graduated from Netherwood School, Rothesay, N.B. in 1938 where she was a prefect, won the English prize for writing and was voted valedictorian in her graduation year. She attended Dalhousie University and was married to George in St. Andrew's, N.B. in 1941. The sale of family company "T. McAvity and Sons" brought Betty, George and family to Sarnia, ON in 1961. Great family memories were made in Rothesay, N.B., Sarnia and Bright's Grove, ON., and Naples, Florida. Among her many interests were: writing, golfing, Ladies Auxiliary, Red Cross, driving disabled children, and singing in the choir. We love and cherish you mum. Rest in peace, and remember us as we will always remember you. Our family would like to thank Mother's many caregivers and friends at Meadowview Villa for supporting her with love and dignity these past few years, and for comforting and guiding the family through the last difficult days. The family will receive friends at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Wednesday, August 24, visitation at 3:00 p.m. and a memorial service to be held at 4:00 p.m. with refreshments served following the service. Family interment at a later date in Saint John, N.B. Donations may be made in Betty's name to the Alzheimer Society, or the Nature Conservancy of Canada, or a favorite charity.
