Frederick Hatcher AMHERST - The death of Fred Hatcher, age 83, of Amherst, formerly of River Hebert, occurred Friday, October 12, 2007, at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Alder Point, NS he was a son of the late Alexander and Elsie (Cox) Hatcher. Fred served in the Canadian Army during World War II. He worked in the coal mines in River Hebert and later did carpentery work with his three brothers in Cape Breton. Fred enjoyed playing cards and fishing. He was well known in the area for his smoked fish recipe. Fred will be sadly missed by daughter Deborah (Anthony) Boudreau, Mill Creek, NS, grandchildren, Michelle (Will), Jeannot, Dennis (Patti) Boudreau; great grandchildren, Lucas, Marina and Ella Jeannot, Craig Scopie, Haylee & Emily Boudreau; sisters, Elsie Apesteguy, North Sydney, Georgina (Raymond) Dowling, West Bay Road; brothers, Alex (Florence), West Bay Road and Daniel, Dartmouth, numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Jane (Card), brothers, Charles, Walter, Freeman and Clayton and sisters, Bertha, Ethel, Mary, Naomia and Cora. The remains have been cremated under the direction of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst (667-8777). By request, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at the River Hebert Cemetery on Monday, October 15, 2007 at 11:30 am Rev. David Myles officiating.
