HANLEY, DOROTHY JENKINS - It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing on August 29, 2005, of Dorothy Parker Hanley. Born December 1, 1916, in Saint John, NB, Dot was the youngest daughter of Hasel Parker and Kate Gertrude (McKenzie) Jenkins. She was a graduate of Saint John High School (class of 1934) and Modern Business College. On May 10, 1941, she married the love of her life, Ed Hanley. An active member of the UCW of St. David's United Church, Rothesay, NB, and later Rockingham United Church, Halifax. Mom was foremost a homemaker who loved her family, her home, her neighbours and that special bond she shared with her bridge club. She enjoyed backyard birding and her gardens, including the deer that, every year, ate her tulip and crocus bulbs. Dot was a very bright, capable individual who loved life. She loved us all so much and showed it every day. Mom was an incredible role model and we will miss her terribly. It is so hard to say goodbye. Dot is survived by her son Doug Hanley and wife Diana, Dartmouth; daughter, Debbie McKee and husband Bill, Fall River; granddaughter, Kathy Hanley and husband Rejean Bourque and their children, her great-grandsons, Max and Fabien Bourque, all of Dorval, Que.; grandson, Christopher Hanley and wife Gina, Stillwater Lake, and niece, Jean Diane Loudon, Nanaimo, BC. Mom was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Ed Hanley; her parents; sister, Jean McKenzie Sutherland, and niece, Dorothy Donna Grounds. The family would like to express special thanks to the dedicated nurses and doctors at the ER and 7.3 floor of the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Thank you all for your kindness. Cremation has taken place. There will be a service for Dot on Friday, September 2 at 11 am in St. Peter's Anglican Church, Kearney Lake Road, Halifax, Rev. Jane Clattenburg officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mom's memory to the Bide Awhile Animal Shelter or General Fund of St. Peter's Anglican Church, Kearney Lake Road, Halifax, would be appreciated.
