Williamsdale, Cumberland Co. - Gordon Wayne Purdy - 49, Williamsdale, Cumberland Co., passed away peacefully in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, on Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, with his family by his side. Born in Springhill, he was a son of Muriel G. (Crawford) Purdy and the late Ivan K. Purdy. Upon graduating from high school, he was employed with Michelin Tire, New Glasgow. Following this he returned home and drove his father's truck, salting the district roads for the Department of Highways and working with the family blueberry business. Later he became self-employed as a blueberry grower. He was a member of Collingwood and District Volunteer Fire Department since 1978. He was a member and Past Master of the Widow's Son Masonic Lodge No. 48, AF&AM, River Philip Cumberland Co. Gordon was a member of Millvale United Church, River Philip Pastoral Charge, holding several offices over the years. He was also president of the Millvale United Cemetery Company. He enjoyed spending time with this family and friends as well as touring his blueberry fields. He was always willing to assist family, friends and strangers. Surviving are his wife, the former M. Jane Nix; daughter, Tiffany Lynn Purdy, at home; sisters, Judy (Bruce) Corkum, Bridgewater; Elizabeth MacArthur, Clairmont, Cumberland Co.; Patricia Brown, Williamsdale, and Rebecca Purdy of Amherst; brothers, Robert (Sharon) Purdy, Alberta Beach, Alta.; Wendel (Linda) Purdy, Williamsdale; Lloyd (Rachelle) Purdy, Grand Digue, N.B.; Joseph Purdy, and Daniel Purdy, Rockley, Cumberland Co.; 19 nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Donna Purdy. Visitation will be held Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday evening in Allen's Funeral Home, 60 Water St. Oxford, with a funeral service to be held on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 2 p.m. in Collingwood Fire Hall with K. Ruth Gamble officiating. Interment will take place in Millvale United Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Millvale United Church Memorial fund, Millvale United Cemetery Memorial Fund, Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice. The Widow's Son Masonic Lodge No. 48 AF&AM, will hold a Masonic Service at the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to: allenfuneralhome@eastlink.ca
