D'AMOUR, ANTONIO - Antonio D'Amour, or Tony as most simply called him, will now rest in peace. At the age of 72, after a tenacious and inspiring fight against cancer, Tony passed away, on Wednesday, December 7, 2005, at his home in Louisdale, Nova Scotia, with Donna, his loving angel and soul mate, by his side. Tony was the 15th of 17 children, born on December 15th, 1932, to Late Antoine D'Amour and Late Graziella Turbide. Besides his wife Donna, Tony will sadly be missed by his three children, Louis (Ginette Roy), from Bathurst, N.B., Denis (Annette Melanson), Dieppe, N.B., and Colette (André Hamel), Ville Lemoyne, Qc, his two step-daughters, Andrea, Halifax, N.S., and Hayley, Wolfville, N.S., his five grand-children, Marie-Hélène D'Amour, Sarnia, On, Luc, Pointe-à-la-Garde, Qc, Jean-Philippe, Bathurst, N.B., Sophie and Devan, Dieppe, N.B., as well as by his sisters, Geneviève Schofield, Moncton, N.B., Thérèse Schofield, Miramichi, N.B., Antoinette Goudreau, Campbellton, NB, Sr. Julie D'Amour f.m.a, Yarmouth, NS, and by his brothers, Ludger and Julien, Moncton, N.B., Maurice and François, Quebec City, Qc, and Albert, Quyon, Qc. As he so wished, there will be no wake. In a few weeks from now, Tony's ashes will be buried in his hometown of Baie-Ste-Anne, N.B., alongside his father, mother and brother, Reverend Cyrille, following a funeral mass at the Sainte-Anne Church. Details of the funeral arrangements will be announced later. Seldom was a man ever so rightfully named, D'Amour. For, Tony will always be remembered as a loving husband, who found in Donna the inspiration and the liberty to turn so many of his dreams into a beautiful reality of paintings, music and poetry. To Louis, Denis, Colette, Andrea and Hayley, Tony always was a teacher. He taught us how to understand events and people, he showed us when to be serious or irreverent and, as he had learned himself as a kid from his father, the true meaning of respect and integrity. It seems terribly unjust when the world loses such a good man. But, we all should be comforted in knowing that, as an eternal last gift, Tony co-wrote, edited and published a collection of short stories dating back to the time his grand-father, Louis-Léopold D'Amour, crossed the Atlantic on the Zenobi, from the small island of Noirmoutier, France, only to begin, in the Magdelen Islands, a new and exciting chapter of the D'Amour history: The Runaway and other stories (www.zenobipublishing.ca).
